Emails have great importance in managing business and communicating with close ones. Hence, any problem leading to the deletion or inaccessibility of emails or other Outlook components (Notes, Calender Entries, Journals etc.) remarkably influences corporate as well as personal life.

There are occasions, when either accidentally or intentionally users delete emails from their Outlook mailboxes. When you delete a mail, it usually get dumped in the 'Deleted Items' folder. Until the deleted mails lie in the 'Deleted Items' folder, you can easily restore them back. However, if you have emptied the Deleted Items folder or have hard deleted (without deleting mails to Deleted Items folder), then the emails seem to be completely erased from the Outlook application. Still, with the help of any powerful Outlook recovery tool, you can recover all your deleted emails back.

For the users whose Outlook applications have been integrated with Exchange Server, Microsoft has provided options to recover the deleted emails. However, for that the Exchange Server must have been configured previously to retain deleted items. You can do that with the administrator authority by setting the number of days to keep deleted items under -

Microsoft Exchange > Server Configuration > Mailbox > database Management > Properties > Limits > Deletion Settings.

If you have configured your Exchange Server as above, then it keeps all your deleted items from Outlook for the specified number of days. By default, the deleted items retention feature is enabled only on the Deleted Items folder. But, Microsoft also suggested certain changes in the registry and you can enable the feature on other mailboxes and can recover items even after hard delete. You can perform the below steps to enable deleted items retention feature on other mailboxes (Inbox, Sent Items, Outbox, Draft etc.):
